What General Dental Care Covers

General dental care focuses on keeping your teeth, gums, and overall oral health in the best possible condition. At The Reef Dental Centre, general dental services include routine dental check-ups, professional scale and cleans, fillings for cavities, and preventative treatments. Care also extends to monitoring and managing gum disease, protecting your gum health, and identifying potential issues early.

By maintaining regular preventive care, many patients can reduce their risk of needing more complex and costly treatments in the future. Our goal is to help you enjoy strong, healthy teeth and gums through personalised dental care tailored to your needs.

Your Dental Appointment Process

What to Expect, Step by Step

  1. A Calm Welcome
When you first arrive, you’ll be greeted by Izzy at the front desk. Our team will help you fill out any forms required, then you can take a seat, sit back, and relax.
  2. Meet Dr Dave
You’ll then meet Dr Dave, who will personally welcome you and take you through to the consultation room.
  3. Let’s Get to Know You
Your visit starts with a genuine conversation. We’ll talk through your concerns, goals, and dental history, and because we take a holistic approach, we may also ask about your lifestyle, work, or family. It all helps us care for you better.
  4. Picture Time!
Don’t worry, it’s not a photoshoot! One of the best ways to show you what’s really going on is with clear photos of your teeth and smile. We’ll also take any necessary radiographs so nothing is missed and everything is thoroughly checked.
  5. Open Wide
Now it’s time to take a closer look. Dr Dave will carefully assess your teeth, gums, jaw, and bite, including screening for oral cancer and checking for any signs of gum disease or tooth related concerns.
  6. Educate and Explain
After the assessment, we use the photos we took earlier to show you exactly what we’re talking about. Seeing what we see removes the guesswork and helps you genuinely understand your oral health, rather than just being told about it. We believe informed patients make better decisions, which is why we never rush this part.
Sometimes we feel there may not be enough time to cover everything. If that’s the case, we’ll get you back in to make sure we have enough time to go through it all, at no extra charge.
  7. Personalised Care Plan
To help ensure we can achieve your goals and optimal oral health, we’ll provide a detailed care plan and walk you through the next steps. This includes treatment options, costs, private health insurance rebate quotes, and help to schedule your next visit.

Preventing Tooth Decay And Gum Disease

Most people will experience tooth decay, cavities, or gum disease at some point in life. Preventative care helps reduce that risk. Routine check ups and regular scale and clean appointments help protect your teeth and gums, reducing the chance of infection and complications. Early treatment means less pain and less invasive procedures. You are also given clear education and advice to help maintain your oral health between visits.

A Stress Free Dental Experience

Visiting a dentist should feel manageable, not overwhelming. The Reef Dental Centre focuses on creating a stress free and pleasant experience for all patients. From your first appointment to ongoing care, you are supported by a calm, experienced team that takes the time to treat you properly. For more involved procedures such as wisdom teeth removal or oral surgery, additional support options can be discussed to ensure your comfort.

Transparent And Affordable Dental Care

You should always understand your treatment and its cost before proceeding. After your dental check-up, you will receive a clear treatment plan outlining your dental service options and fees. The Reef Dental Centre accepts all major health funds, with on the spot claims available. We also offer a range of payment plan options, ask our friendly staff at reception if this is something you might be interested in.
